Let us introduce you to the world of  Bollywood and Kathak dance that you can learn in our dance school.

Bollywood dancing is a combination/fusion of several other styles. It is heavily influenced by classical Indian dances such as Kathak and Bhratnatyam. In addition, this style incorporates some high energy Bhangra (Panjabi style of folk dance) moves as well as the flair and polish of Jazz. In recent years, Bollywood has become more westernized and commercial by fusing with Street, Hip Hop and Belly dance.

Bollywood is also the name given to the film industry in India which is considered to be the largest in the world producing the greatest number of titles each year.  More recently, films such as Slumdog Millionaire have helped to bring Indian films to the Western world. Bollywood films use many songs and lots of dancers to help tell the stories. The use of vibrant colours and modern Indian music make these films intoxicating.

Kathak is said to be derived from the word katha, meaning “the art of storytelling.” The Kathak dance form originated in north India and was very similar to the Bharatnatyam dance form. In ancient India, there were Kathakars or bards who used to recite religious and mythological tales to the accompaniment music, mime and dance.

We also offer bellydance, flamenco and gypsy style classes. All dance styles are taught by professional dancer Ana Jug. She has been performing since age of 5 and before entering into the world of oriental dances, her main activity was contemporary dance which she studied at Student experimental theatre. Then she fell in love with India and went there to learn indian Kathak dance from one of the greatest dancer and teacher Uma Sharma. After returning to Croatia, she started to teach various dance styles including bellydance, roman turkish dance, bollywood dance and also kathak dance. Together with her students she did five very successful theatre performances.
